If you’re considering hiring a skip, then it is responsible for you to find out whether you will need a skip permit for the location that you require the skip to be sited.

What is a skip permit?

A skip permit (sometimes referred to as a skip license) is a permit that allows you to place a skip on a public road, pavement, grass verge or footway.

The permit is issued from the local council and will be subject to terms and conditions.

What is the purpose of a skip permit?

A permit ensures that skips are validated to be sited safely and don’t endanger road users or pedestrians and ensures that skip complies with environmental regulations.

All permits specify that skips will be required to have cones and lights visible especially during non-daylight hours.

Applying for the Permit

If you’re planning on hiring a skip which is not to be sited on your private property, a permit may be required.

Here at AB Waste, we will check if a permit is required and apply for the permit on your behalf, yes that’s right – We do the leg work which means there’s no hassle for you!

Upon application for a permit, the local authority will require a certain number of days for processing before any permit is approved. The processing time varies depending on the council from 2 working days to 7 working days.

When a permit is approved, it will have a time limit stated, it will state either 7 days or 14 days, generally this depends on the type of road the skip will be sited on. If the hire period needs to be extended another permit will have to be applied for.
